Organic Skincare: Is 'Organic' Always the Best?

The demand for organic skincare is growing, but what truly makes a product organic, and how do natural ingredients like wild-harvested botanicals fit in? At Abloom, we focus on organic and wild-harvested ingredients to give your skin the best possible care. Last week, the Dutch television program Nieuwsuur featured organic skincare, a topic also discussed by the Dutch Cosmetics Association in a recent blog. This issue touches on a core aspect of our philosophy at Abloom: using organic and wild-harvested ingredients.

What Does 'Organic' Mean? | Organic Ingredients in Skincare

It's important to understand what 'organic' really means. Organic ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides or chemical fertilizers, making them more environmentally friendly and healthier for our skin. That sounds ideal, and we proudly use almost exclusively organic ingredients in our products. However, some ingredients, like seaweed, cannot be labeled as organic because they are harvested from their natural environment in the ocean and cannot be cultivated. We ensure that even these ingredients are of the highest quality.

Wild-Harvested Ingredients | The Power of Natural Wild-Harvest

At Abloom, we also love to use ingredients that grow in the wild, without human intervention or agricultural methods. These plants gather their nutrients naturally in their own habitat, often resulting in more potent and nutrient-rich properties compared to cultivated plants. This is due to the secondary metabolism of plants, where they produce additional nutrients and antioxidants to survive in challenging conditions. These substances not only protect the plant but also make them more effective for skincare. Wild-harvested ingredients are often naturally organic, even if they do not carry the official certification.

Limitations of Certification | Organic Certification vs Wild-Harvest

The downside of certification is that it only applies to cultivated crops. Plants that grow freely in the wild, far from pollution and human influence, cannot be officially certified as 'organic.' Yet, they are often just as pure, and sometimes even more nutrient-dense. For us, the quality of ingredients is more important than a certificate alone; we strive for the best nutrients for your skin, sourced from plants harvested with respect for nature.

Transparency and Quality | Natural Extraction and Quality

We understand that some consumers want certainty about the origin and quality of our ingredients. At Abloom, we are always transparent about our process. Our products contain over 150 natural ingredients that are carefully selected and processed through a 90-day slow extraction method to fully harness the power of nature. If you have any questions or concerns about our ingredients, we are always here to provide answers.

Our Mission | Pure and Powerful for Your Skin

Our mission is to use the purest and most powerful ingredients from nature – organic or wild-harvested – to nourish, protect, and make your skin glow. You can trust that we always choose what is best for your skin; while 'organic' is a beautiful label, for us, it ultimately comes down to what truly benefits your skin.
