Essential Oils in Skincare: Risk or Remedy for Your Skin?
What are essential oils? Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts, capturing the “essence” of a plant — its aroma, active compounds,...

Sensitive skin asks for a thoughtful, gentle approach. It reacts more quickly than other skin types, to temperature changes, wind, UV, hard water and harsh, chemical products, and it often shows that reaction as redness, tightness, stinging or a burning feeling. The cause usually lies in a weakened skin barrier and a disrupted microbiome, the skin's natural defence. When that barrier is compromised, irritants get in more easily and moisture escapes. At Abloom we believe the answer is not to add more actives, but to do less, better: calm the skin, rebuild its barrier and support its microbiome with pure, plant-based care and nothing it does not need.

Sensitive skin is not a flaw, it is a signal. The skin's protective barrier is more fragile, so it responds to things other skin types barely notice. A few common triggers:
Please note: there is a difference between skin that is naturally sensitive and skin that has become sensitised. Naturally sensitive skin is something you are born with; sensitised skin is the result of over-treating, harsh products or a damaged barrier, and it can recover. In both cases the way forward is the same: less is more. Give the skin calm, gentle care and time, and it settles.

It is tempting to reach for strong, active-packed products when skin misbehaves. For sensitive skin, that usually backfires. Every harsh cleanse or aggressive active chips away at an already fragile barrier, and the skin reacts even more.
A barrier-first approach does the opposite. Pure plant oils, soothing botanicals and antioxidants calm inflammation, rebuild the barrier and feed the microbiome, so the skin gradually becomes stronger and less reactive. For sensitive skin, fewer and gentler steps almost always outperform a crowded routine.

Soothe and care for sensitive skin with the Sensitive Skin Regimen Box: a gentle, 100% organic starter kit that calms irritation, restores the barrier, and brings your skin back into balance. Visible relief within 7–10 days.

Four calm steps, built around what sensitive skin really needs.
Step 1 — Cleanse gently, once a day
Cleanse only in the evening, and keep it mild. Over-cleansing strips the barrier and leaves skin tight and reactive. Our Purifying Cleanser cleanses effectively while respecting the skin barrier. In the morning, water alone is enough.
Step 2 — Calm and soothe
Follow with Soothing Lotion, with frankincense, orange, French lavender and wild chamomile to soothe, calm redness and comfort irritated skin.
Step 3 — Nourish and protect
Lock in moisture and rebuild the barrier with a gentle day and night cream. Introduce one new product at a time and patch test first, so you always know how your skin responds. Explore our creams.
Step 4 — Strengthen weekly
Once a week, treat the skin to a calming mask to strengthen and rebalance. Our Green Detox Mask supports the skin's own defences without stripping it.

Sensitive skin calms from the inside too. An anti-inflammatory diet supports the barrier and reduces reactivity.
Eat more: Oily fish (salmon, mackerel, sardines) or algae oil for omega 3. Colourful vegetables and fruit rich in antioxidants (berries, leafy greens). Fermented foods (sauerkraut, kefir, kimchi) for a healthy gut, which supports calm skin. Water and herbal tea for hydration.
Limit or avoid: Excess sugar and refined carbohydrates, which fuel inflammation. Alcohol and a lot of caffeine, which dehydrate and can trigger flushing. And any personal triggers you notice, for some that includes very spicy food.

All about sensitive skin
Sensitive skin usually comes down to a weakened skin barrier and a disrupted microbiome, the skin's natural defence. When the barrier is compromised, irritants get in more easily and moisture escapes, so the skin reacts to triggers like temperature changes, wind, UV, hard water and harsh products. Calming the skin and rebuilding the barrier is the way to make it less reactive.
Naturally sensitive skin is something you are born with. Sensitised skin has become reactive over time, usually through over-treating, harsh products or a damaged barrier, and it can recover. In both cases the approach is the same: gentle, barrier-first care and a little patience.
Gently, and only once a day. Cleanse in the evening with a mild cleanser like our Purifying Cleanser, which respects the skin barrier, and simply rinse with water in the morning. Over-cleansing strips the barrier and leaves sensitive skin tight and reactive.
It depends on which ones and how much. Well-chosen, low-dose botanicals like chamomile and lavender can genuinely soothe sensitive skin, while synthetic fragrance and alcohol are best avoided. Our Soothing Lotion is formulated to calm rather than provoke, and it is always wise to read the ingredient list and patch test first.
Yes. Pure, cold-pressed plant oils help calm inflammation and rebuild the barrier rather than irritate it. Miracle Oil combines soothing botanicals such as turmeric, licorice root and rosehip to comfort and hydrate reactive skin.
It can. An anti-inflammatory diet, rich in omega 3, antioxidants and fermented foods for gut health, supports a calmer, stronger barrier. Excess sugar, alcohol and, for some people, very spicy food can increase redness and reactivity.
