What is it?

Zinc oxide is a white mineral powder. In a sun cream it stays on the surface of the skin and protects it against UV rays. Sun creams with zinc oxide are called mineral sun creams, as opposed to creams with chemical filters.

Zinc oxide protects against both kinds of UV rays. UVB rays cause sunburn. UVA rays reach deeper into the skin and are one of the main causes of skin ageing and pigmentation. That is why zinc oxide is known as a broad spectrum filter. Read more in our article protect your skin.

Zinc oxide is a broad spectrum filter: it protects against UVB rays that cause sunburn and against UVA rays that play a large role in skin ageing.

Gentle for sensitive skin

As a mineral filter, zinc oxide is known for being gentle, also on sensitive skin. It is a good choice if chemical filters bother you.

No white cast

Zinc oxide on its own can look white on the skin. Our SPF cream has a subtle tint, in Nude or Sunkissed, so you get a natural, even glow instead.

How to use

Apply the Luminous SPF 20+ Cream every morning as the last step of your routine, after your serum or cream. Wear it on its own or under make-up, and reapply when you spend longer periods outside.

What is the difference between a mineral and a chemical sun filter?+

A mineral filter such as zinc oxide stays on the surface of the skin and protects it there. Chemical filters are absorbed into the upper layer of the skin and work in a different way. Many people with sensitive skin prefer a mineral filter.

Does zinc oxide leave a white cast?+

Pure zinc oxide can look white. Our Luminous SPF 20+ Cream has a subtle tint, Nude for lighter skin and Sunkissed for a warmer tone, so it gives a natural glow instead of a white layer.

Is zinc oxide suitable for sensitive skin?+

Yes. Zinc oxide is known as a gentle filter, also for sensitive skin. If your skin is very reactive, test a new product on a small area first.

Is SPF 20 enough?+

Our SPF 20 blocks about 93 percent of UVB rays and is made for daily protection. If you spend a long time in strong sun, choose higher protection, reapply regularly and seek the shade.

Do I need SPF in autumn and winter?+

Yes. UVA rays are there all year round, also on cloudy days, and they even pass through glass. A daily SPF helps keep your skin healthy and even all year.
