St John's wort oil

St John's wort oil is a deep red plant oil made from the yellow flowers of St John's wort. It is traditionally used to care for dry, stressed skin and makes it feel comfortable and supple. It is the second ingredient of our Miracle Oil, and our Day Cream, Night Cream and Eye Cream contain St John's wort extract.

What is it?

St John's wort (Hypericum perforatum) is a wild plant with bright yellow flowers that blooms around midsummer, near St John's Day, which is where its name comes from. Traditionally the flowers are left to steep in a plant oil for a few weeks. The oil slowly turns deep red from hypericin, a natural pigment in the flowers.

St John's wort has been used in skincare for centuries. The oil contains flavonoids with an antioxidant effect and feels comforting on dry, rough or stressed skin. In Miracle Oil it comes right after jojoba, together with rosehip and sea buckthorn, among others. In our creams, St John's wort extract is one of the supporting botanicals.

Application

How to use

Massage a few drops of Miracle Oil into clean, slightly damp skin, or mix a drop into your cream. You use the creams with St John's wort extract as usual: the Day Cream in the morning, the Night Cream in the evening and the Eye Cream around your eyes.

St John's wort contains hypericin, and pure St John's wort oil is known to make skin more sensitive to sunlight. Planning to spend a long time in strong sun? Then apply oils with St John's wort in the evening, and always protect your skin with SPF during the day.

Is St John's wort oil the same as St John's wort tablets?+
