Ingredient

Ectoin

Ectoin is a natural protective molecule that helps the skin hold on to moisture and protects it against everyday influences such as dry air, wind and pollution. It is mild and suits sensitive skin. In our Hydrating Toner, ectoin works together with aloe vera and tremella for a calm boost of moisture.

Ectoin
The source

What is it?

Ectoin was discovered in microorganisms that live in extreme places, such as salt lakes and deserts. They make ectoin to protect their cells against drought, salt and heat. For skincare, ectoin is produced by fermentation.

Ectoin binds water molecules around itself and so forms a kind of protective moisture shell. On your skin that means more moisture and a calmer feel, especially when your skin has to deal with wind, cold, central heating or pollution. In our Hydrating Toner it is one of several hydrating ingredients, next to aloe vera and the snow mushroom tremella.
