Ingredient

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a moisture binder that your skin also makes itself. In skincare it draws water into the upper layers of the skin and holds it there, so the skin feels plumper, smoother and more comfortable. At Abloom you find it in the Supreme Skin Elixir, in a base of aloe vera juice.

Hyaluronic Acid
The source

What is it?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural part of your skin. It sits between the skin cells and works like a sponge that holds on to water. As we get older the skin makes less of it, which is one reason why skin can feel drier and less supple over the years.

On an ingredient list you usually see it as sodium hyaluronate, the salt form of hyaluronic acid. It is more stable in a formula and does the same job: binding water in the upper layers of the skin. In our Supreme Skin Elixir it works together with tremella, a snow mushroom that also holds water, ceramide and glycerin, all in a base of aloe vera juice instead of water.

How it works

What does it do for your skin?

Binds moisture

Hyaluronic acid attracts water and holds it in the upper layers of the skin, so the skin feels hydrated and comfortable for longer.

Plumps and smooths

Well hydrated skin looks fuller and smoother. Fine lines caused by dryness are less visible when the skin holds enough moisture.

Light for every skin type

It feels light and never greasy, so it suits dry skin as well as oily, combination and sensitive skin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate?+
Sodium hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid. It is more stable in a formula and binds water in the same way, which is why most skincare uses it. On the label you therefore usually read sodium hyaluronate.
Should you apply hyaluronic acid to damp skin?+
Yes, that works best. On slightly damp skin it has water to hold on to. Always follow with a cream or oil, especially in dry air, so the moisture does not evaporate.
Can I use hyaluronic acid every day?+
Yes. Hyaluronic acid is gentle and suits daily use. Our Supreme Skin Elixir is meant to be used once a day.
Can you combine hyaluronic acid with vitamin C or retinol?+
Yes. Hyaluronic acid goes well with most ingredients. It adds moisture, which makes it a comfortable partner for stronger actives.
What is the difference between hyaluronic acid and tremella?+
Both hold water in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is a substance your skin also makes itself, while tremella is a mushroom extract that hydrates in a similar way. In the Supreme Skin Elixir they work side by side.
Is hyaluronic acid suitable for oily skin?+
Yes. Oily skin can still be short of moisture. Hyaluronic acid hydrates without adding oil, so it feels light on oily and combination skin.
