Panthenol

Panthenol is provitamin B5, a gentle moisturiser that draws water into the skin and helps it stay soft and comfortable. It is known for calming the look of redness and supporting the skin barrier, which is why we use it in our Soothing Lotion for sensitive and easily irritated skin.

Panthenol
The source

What is it?

Panthenol is the provitamin form of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid). Once it is on your skin, it is converted into vitamin B5, a substance your skin also uses itself. On labels you will find it as panthenol or D-panthenol.

Panthenol is a humectant: it attracts water and holds it in the upper layers of the skin. It also feels soothing. That makes it a good partner for aloe vera, which forms the base of our Soothing Lotion instead of water, and for calming plants such as chamomile.

How it works

What does it do for your skin?

Draws in moisture

Panthenol binds water in the skin, so it feels softer and smoother and less tight. A good start for dry and dehydrated skin.

Calms the look of redness

Panthenol feels soothing on skin that is red, warm or irritated, for example after shaving or after a treatment in the salon.

Supports the skin barrier

By keeping the skin hydrated, panthenol helps support a healthy skin barrier, so your skin can hold on to moisture better.
