Did you know skin problems like dry skin, eczema, flaky skin or other inflammatory conditions can be the result of a disbalance in the fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6?
In your body, omega-3 produces signalling molecules that fight inflammation and omega-6 reduces the production of cholesterol and strengthens the immune system. Both are essential fatty acids and very important, but only when consumed in the right proportion, because if we consume too much omega-6 it promotes inflammations and prevents omega-3 from doing its good work.
And that’s the problem. Nowadays we consume enough (too much) omega-6 through meat, butter and salad oils and too little omega-3. This you will find in fatty fish from the sea. Food specialists claim that a ratio of 1:5 (omega-3:omega-6) is a good objective.
You have probably heard this before but now you know why. Eat fish at least twice a week! Preferably oily fish from the sea, like mackarel, herring, salmon or sardines. Because their habitat is very important please check where it comes from. Fish that was caught in open see where they had sea algaes is the best. Another source of omega-3 is the egg. Here too, it is very important the eggs come from happy free-range chickens.
If you don’t like fish you can always buy the oil in capsules.
